About the Artist
My name is Suelene Rebouças — Sue Rebouças to most people, since Suelene is a mouthful to pronounce outside Brazil. I sign my canvases Sue Rebouças; a few early drawings from 2006 carry my family nickname, "Nena," from back when I was just drawing for the sake of drawing.
I'm a self-taught, Brazilian-born artist working in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. Most of my work grows out of travel — my own photographs and memories, brought back to life at the easel. My paintings range from large canvases down to mini works (8×10in, 6×6in, 4×4in), alongside custom calendars, bookmarks, cards, and wearable pieces like silk scarves and pouches.
In 2014, one of my pieces was part of a public digital installation on the Times Square billboards through See|Me Gallery.
